Dow Performance Plastics wins the 43rd Kirkpatrick Chemical Engineering Achievement Award

| By Dorothy Lozowski

The 43rd Kirkpatrick Chemical Engineering Achievement Award was presented on Wednesday, November 18 to Dow Performance Plastics for its Intune Olefin Block Copolymers. Chemical Engineering magazine has presented this biennial award continuously since 1933. The award honors the most-noteworthy chemical engineering technology that has been commercialized anywhere in the world during the two previous years. Past winners include a list of distinguished milestones, such as Union Carbide’s low-pressure low-density polyethylene (1979); Dow Corning’s silicones (1955); and Genomatica’s process for bio-based butanediol (2013). A full list of past winners can be found at this link: https://www.chemengonline.com/kirkpatrick-award/

Along with the winning achievement, four Honor Awards were presented to:

  • Newlight Technologies, AirCarbon Process
  • Clariant, HGM Technology for propylene dehydrogenation
  • AM Technology, Coflore Reactor
  • CB&I, CDAlky alkylation technology

The awards were presented at the Chem Show in the Javits Center in New York City. Preceding the award presentation, all five companies gave a brief overview of their distinguished technological accomplishments. The Board of Judges for this year’s award included five heads of chemical engineering departments from U.S. universities and three heads of chemical engineering departments from E.U. universities. A more in-depth view of each technology will be in Chemical Engineering’s December issue, which will be available online on December 1.
