The LM80 laser transmitter (photo) can be used for noncontact level measurement and positioning in dry bulk and liquid level applications. Solid surfaces can be measured at any angle with the LM80, as well as moving targets, such as overhead cranes and tripper cars. Functionality is maintained in harsh conditions due to "last pulse detection", which selects true signals and variable gain for the best return. The transmitter also compensates for color differences in the materials being measured, and a narrow, low-divergence beam minimizes false echoes. Position can be measured for distances up to 500 ft and level can be measured at distances up to 100 ft.
Additonal options are the AccuTrak AT100 and AT200 magnetostrictive level transmitters that have just been certified for operation in safety integrity level 2 (SIL2) environments. Highly reliable measurements are obtained through a patented piezo-ceramic sensor, which converts mechanical torsion into a strong electrical return pulse. The transmitters function at pressures up to 3,000 psi and temperatures up to 800°F. — K-TEK Corp., Prairieville, La.
