Two Sealants for High-temperature Oleaginous Process Fluids

| By Chemical Engineering

This firm has synthesized two advanced fluoroelastomer (FKM) materials, Resifluor 500 and Resifluor V8T41, as sealants for oily and greasy substances. The FKM materials offer superior high-temperature water capabilities and stability in destructive chemicals, particularly solvents. While previous FKM seals fail in steam at operating temperatures of 212°F, well below sterilize-in-place (SIP) operations, and tend to deteriorate in alkaline-based media, the new Resifluor seals are more resilient, says the firm. Unlike ethylene propylene-diene-monomer rubber — which has conventionally been used in oil and grease applications requiring SIP operations — these seals do not swell on contact with oleaginous content. — Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, Copenhagen, Denmark
