Transfer harsh chemicals with this mobile pump

| By Chemical Engineering

A new non-metallic mobile pump and tank cart is designed to transfer wastewater and caustic or acidic chemicals with no corrosion. All fluid-contact surfaces of the tank, base plate and secondary containment chamber are made from solid polypropylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride or other inert thermoplastic. The materials preclude chemical attack across the entire pH range, the company says. The system can also prevent contamination in ultrapure fluids. It uses a Flex-I-Liner model pump, which has a rotor mounted on a eccentric shaft to push fluid trapped between a flexible elastomer liner and a solid thermoplastic body block at flows up to 2 gal/min. The self-priming design has no seals or valves and can run dry without damage. — Vanton Pump and Equipment Corp., Hillside, N.J.
