Haldor Topsøe A/S (Lyngby, Denmark; www.topsoe.com) has signed a contract with the Henan Jinkai Group, China. The contract includes a sulfur management plant, which will play a key role in clean coal gasification.
The plant will be built in connection with an ammonia plant, producing 500,000 ton/yr of NH3 for fertilizer production. The waste gases from the process contain large amounts of sulfur compounds, among others H2S and must be cleaned before released into the environment.
With Topsøe’s WSA technology, it is possible to recover the sulfur in the off gas, converting it directly into sulfuric acid and consequently producing large amounts of superheated steam. The WSA technology has been selected as it is economically superior compared to traditional Claus technology.
The plant will recover 40 m.t./d of sulfur from sulfur-containing acid gas, and it will produce 120 m.t./d of sulphuric acid as well as 245 m.t./d of superheated steam.
The plant is located in Kaifeng City in the Henan Province of People’s Republic of China.
The contract includes license, basic engineering, equipment, materials, catalysts, supervision and training.
