This spectrometer has temperature-controlled optics

| By Chemical Engineering

Equipped with CCD (charge-coupled device) detector technology, the latest generation of the Spectromaxx Optical Emission Spectrometer features temperature-controlled optics and a benchtop footprint. The instrument is capable of detection limits down to 10 ppm for elements such as nitrogen — the performance most often associated with larger, more expensive stationary instruments, says the company. All measurements are carried out under an argon shield through which a constant flow can be maintained. The new generation instrument has the ability to suspend argon flow while the machine is not in use, and automatically re-establish flow at a pre-determined time before work begins again. The Spectromaxx instrument is rugged enough for locations such as furnace cabins. — Spectro Analytical Instruments GmbH, Kleve, Germany
