The organic content of water can be evaluated by determining the water’s total organic content (TOC) value. The TOC value is the sum of different parameters measured by the CO2 content after the complete oxidation of all organic compounds.
membraPure introduce two systems for the online determination of the TOC content of pure and ultra-pure water: the uniTOC process and uniTOC online. With these instruments, measurements can be taken at two different points in the line of a water-purification system during the running process.
The nearly maintenance-free uniTOC systems allow online TOC determination for a variety of applications, including the pharmaceutical industry, microelectronics, chemical industry and production and surveillance of potable water. They fulfill all international standards for pharmaceutical usage, including a standard suitability test according to USP and Ph.Eur. requirements, and compliance with CFR 21 part 11 for electronic records. All fluidic lines of the instruments are fabricated with high-purity materials like PEEK, PFA or PTFE with almost no dead volumes. Samples are dosed with a corrosion-free peristaltic pump.
In the first step of the analysis, the total inorganic carbon (TIC) content of the sample is removed. In the second step, the organic carbon is completely oxidized with a high-energy, low-voltage UV lamp, followed by the detection of carbon dioxide by CO2–selective NDIR cells. The TOC content is measured online and the values are given in parts per billion.
An internal computer with a touch screen controls the instrument and registers all parameters. Data is obtained through a USB interface for integration into an existing network.
