Stamicarbon B.V. (Sittard, the Netherlands; www.stamicarbon.com), the innovation and license company of Maire Tecnimont Group (www.mairetecnimont.com), and Hubei Sanning Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd have signed contracts for the licensing of technology and the delivery of proprietary equipment for a grass root urea plant with a capacity of 2,334 metric tons per day, to be built in Zhijiang, Hubei, China.
This project already represents the second plant contracted in China within 1 year. This plant is also going to use Stamicarbon’s novel Ultra-Low Energy Design and confirms the interest and trust of Chinese producers in this technology. It is an innovation in energy efficiency, which will lead to about 40% reduction in steam consumption in urea plants. This is a significant reduction in energy costs and therefore in OPEX, whilst also reducing the carbon footprint substantially in comparison with other types of urea plants.
The scope of the contract includes License, Process Design Package (PDP), and delivery of High Pressure Equipment and associated services for the urea plant. The scope of the HP Equipment includes the new design of the Safurex Pool Reactor which was adapted and perfected for the Ultra-Low Energy Design. Startup of the plant is expected at the end of 2019.
