Solvay’s Rheinberg plant
Solvay S.A. (Brussels, Belgium; www.solvay.com) announces a €6-million investment in its site in Rheinberg to expand its sodium bicarbonate production capacity. Its startup is planned by the end of 2018. With this new capacity, Solvay will be able to deliver its customers with SOLVAir SB 0/3, a ready-to-use solution for reducing pollutant atmospheric emissions in industries, to help them meet the most stringent newest environmental regulations.
SOLVAir products improve air quality by eliminating acid gases, such as hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sulfur oxides (SOx), in a simple, efficient, and sustainable way. SOLVAir SB 0/3 allows industrial companies to comply with regulations with reduced investment and operation costs.
“The addition of capacity in Rheinberg complements the existing capacity in Torrelavega, Spain and creates a new platform to further grow our business in flue gas treatment. Our customers, such as waste-to-energy plants, power plants, industrial boilers, glass, cement, and steel industries, will benefit from another reliable and secure source of supply,” comments Olivier Champault, Head of Bicarbonate and derivatives business.
This new capacity will benefit from a reduced energy consumption, in line with Solvay’s sustainable commitment to decrease its CO2 intensity. The project will be co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
