Solvay, partners embark on energy-efficiency project in Italy

| By Mary Bailey

Solvay SA (Brussels, Belgium; www.solvay.com) announced the creation of a joint venture (JV) with Marubeni Europe plc, a division of Japan-based Marubeni Corp., and turbine supplier Ansaldo Energia to invest in an energy-efficiency project at Solvay’s facility in Rosignano, Italy.

The three partners will finance and operate a new state-of-the-art 180-MW gas turbine and a repowered plant with a total capacity of 350 MW of electrical power and total steam production capacity of 410 tons per hour. This project will allow the plant to be competitively supplied with steam while reducing its environmental impacts thanks to the efficient natural-gas-based technology.

Solvay Energy Services, Marubeni and Ansaldo Energia join their complementary know-how aiming to improve the plant’s energy and environmental management at limited costs and to accompany its energy transition.
