SNF plans new polymers plant in Louisiana

| By Dorothy Lozowski

SNF Holding Co. (Riceboro, Georgia; www.snf.us) has announced its plans to construct a new water‐soluble polymers manufacturing facility in Iberville Parish, Louisiana. The proposed facility is expected to be built in phases over five years, with a total capital investment of approximately $350 million. The proposed facility, which will produce acrylamide monomer and polacrylamide powders packaged in bags or supersacks, will be located on an 800-acre site just south of Plaquemine. The initial target capacity is 250,000 ton/yr of polyacrylamide. The need for a new facility is being driven by increased demand for SNF products in enhanced oil recovery. Construction will not begin until the company has secured the necessary regulatory permits, but the company is hopeful that a 1st Q 2010 construction  startup is attainable, with a plant startup expected to occur approximately one year after construction begins.
