SNC-Lavalin awarded contracts on both Potash Ridge’s Valleyfield and Blawn Mountain Projects

| By Gerald Ondrey

SNC-Lavalin (Montreal, Canada; www.snclavalin.com) has recently been awarded two separate contracts by Potash Ridge Corp., a near term producer of premium fertilizer in North America. The first contract is for the first phase of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) program for the Valleyfield project, located in Valleyfield, Quebec, and the second is for the development of the Blawn Mountain project, located in Utah.

The contract for the Valleyfield project comprises two distinct phases. The first phase is expected to be a four-month process during which SNC-Lavalin will finalize engineering and process drawings, prepare equipment lists, schedule long lead items, and award early vendor works contracts such as the Mannheim furnace package, for a 40,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr) sulfate-of-potash facility, with the potential to increase the size of the facility to 80,000 m.t./yr. The second phase of the project involves procurement and site works, which will occur shortly upon completion of the detailed engineering. The Valleyfield Project is expected to be fully operational by late 2017.

The second contract involves SNC-Lavalin undertaking a Scaling Study for the development of the Blawn Mountain potash project to assess the plant design and capacity. The Scaling Study is contemplated to take four months to complete. Following the Scaling Study, SNC-Lavalin will have the exclusive option to negotiate and enter into a lump sum, fixed price EPC contract for execution of the Blawn Mountain project.
