| By Gerald Ondrey

SNC-Lavalin (Montreal; Canada; www.snclavalin.com) has been awarded a contract by Norilsk Nickel to implement a Sulfur Recovery Project at the Nadezhda Smelter, located at the company’s Polar Division in the Krasnoyarsk Region, Russia. This project is one of the largest SO2-mitigation projects in the world.

SNC-Lavalin will prepare detailed engineering and process drawings, and will execute the project through its offices in Toronto and Moscow, as well as a site presence in Norilsk Nickel. The target of the project is to reduce SO2 emissions by capturing emitted SO2, a gas that contributes to the formation of acid rain.
