Siemens designs sinter plant for Ukranian steel producer EMZ

| By Mary Page Bailey

Siemens Metals Technologies (Linz, Austria; www.siemens.com/metals) has received an order from the Metinvest Group to carry out detailed engineering work on a new sinter plant for PJSC "Yenakiieve Iron and Steel Works" (EMZ), a Ukrainian steel producer. The sinter plant will be built at the Yenakiieve Plant in the Donbass Region and is designed to produce 4.3 million metric tons per year (m.t./yr) of sinter. The mixing and granulating system from Siemens allows EMZ to use the locally available, ultra-fine iron ore concentrates at high productivity levels. Construction is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2014 and commissioning is planned for 2016. The new plant will almost double EMZ’s sinter production capacity. Featuring a specially developed offgas recirculation systems that also reduces coke consumption, the plant design targets substantial reduction of plant emissions and energy usage.
