SGH2 Energy (Washington, D.C.) announced the expansion of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ABB, Inc. (Zurich, Switzerland) to drive future integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital solutions to enable more sustainable and resource-efficient operations. SGH2 Energy aims to transform the production of carbon-negative hydrogen (C-nH2) and hydrogen-derived fuels, significantly lowering the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH), and advancing towards the ambitious Earth Shot goals set by the U.S. Department of Energy. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in SGH2’s mission to lead the green hydrogen industry through innovation and sustainable practices. SGH2 is currently working on a world-scale low-carbon hydrogen project in Lancaster, Calif.
As part of the expanded MoU scope, SGH2 will explore harnessing ABB’s advanced digital solutions, including ABB Ability Genix, an enterprise-grade suite designed to leverage industrial analytics and AI. The integration of ABB’s digital capabilities into its automation, electrical and telecommunication infrastructure, would enable SGH2 to enhance predictive maintenance, streamline asset management, and improve overall operational efficiency.
ABB Ability Genix addresses the critical issue of underutilized industrial data by unlocking valuable insights through the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). This would allow SGH2 to optimize decision-making processes, minimize unplanned downtime, and maximize the efficiency of its C.nH₂ and hydrogen production facilities, thereby driving down costs and boosting profitability. SGH2’s LCOH is already three times lower than electrolytic-based hydrogen, utilizing significantly less power, land, and water resources.
Through predictive analytics and real-time insights, SGH2 will be able to optimize yield, quality, and safety processes, significantly enhancing operational performance. The digital integration will also allow the company to minimize its carbon footprint, aligning with stringent global sustainability regulations.
This AI-powered transformation would empower SGH2’s IT and operational teams with greater visibility, enabling them to address industrial challenges more effectively and become more agile in the rapidly evolving hydrogen energy market. Through partnerships, SGH2 is positioned to lead the transition to a sustainable hydrogen economy, establishing itself as a frontrunner in innovation, efficiency, and profitability.
As the global demand for clean hydrogen and hydrogen-derived fuels intensifies, SGH2’s expanded collaboration with ABB underscores its commitment to setting new standards in production efficiency, improving resource utilization, and contributing to a greener future.
