Schlumberger and Cambridge Viscosity collaborate on viscosity standards

| By Dorothy Lozowski

Recognizing that oil exploration increasingly involves reservoir fluids at pressures and temperatures not previously encountered, Cambridge Viscosity (Medford, Mass.; www.cambridgeviscosity.com) and Schlumberger (www.slb.com) have formed a collaborative effort to define and develop viscosity standards appropriate for these new conditions. The coalition sponsored an industry-wide High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) Viscosity Standards workshop to gauge interest, broaden support and guide the effort. Widespread industry participation in the workshop indicated significant interest in developing a fluid viscosity standards program. The workshop included four presentations and a roundtable panel discussion with industry experts in reservoir fluids. The executive summary of the entire session and several of the presentations are available at: www.slb.com/services/testing/reservoir_sampling/fluid_lab/hpht_pvt_studies/hpht_viscosity_standards.aspx
