Sasol selects Toyo for Lake Charles LLDPE contract

| By Mary Page Bailey

Toyo Engineering Korea Limited (Toyo-Korea), a subsidiary of Toyo Engineering Corp. (Toyo; Chiba, www.toyo-eng.co.jp) has been awarded a contract from Sasol Ltd. (Johannesburg, South Africa; www.sasol.co.za) to provide detailed engineering, procurement, module fabrication, and construction support services for a linear low density polyethylene plant (LLDPE) with capacity of 450,000 metric tons yer year (m.t./yr), as part of Sasol’s petrochemical complex to be established in Lake Charles, Louisiana. TOYO has been executing the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) services for this plant since 2013. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2017.

Sasol is planning a world-scale ethane cracker with downstream derivatives including this LLDPE plant, applying the Unipol PE process of Univation Technologies, LLC.

Toyo has vast experience in executing Unipol LLDPE projects. This award added the 23rd project to Toyo’s Unipol PE process track record. This award represents a strong foothold toward penetrating the US shale gas market and will continuously explore upcoming shale gas projects.
