Samsung Engineering wins $500-million polyolefins contract in Vietnam

Samsung Engineering Co. (Seoul, South Korea; www.samsungengineering.com) signed a $500-million contract with Long Son Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. (LSP), a subsidiary of SCG Chemicals, for a polyolefins project in Vietnam at an official signing ceremony at the SCG Chemicals headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. The project is located in the Long Son Island, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 30 km north of Vung Tau City and 70 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The contract was signed by LSP’s General Director Thammasak Sethaudom and Samsung Engineering’s President & CEO Sungan Choi and the ceremony was further attended by Cholanat Yanaranop President of SCG Chemicals and Somchai Wangwattanapanich SVP of SCG Chemicals.

Samsung Engineering will deliver a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plant with a capacity of 450,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr) and a polypropylene (PP) plant with a capacity of 400,000 m.t./yr. The HDPE plant and PP plant are part of the first petrochemical complex in Vietnam to be operated by LSP. The HDPE and the PP plants are scheduled to be completed by end of 2022.

The scope of work comprises process units, including Reactor, Extruder and Bagging Machine technologies, as well as the work for the Utilities and Offsites (U&O), which contains a Substation and Cooling Tower.
