Samsung Engineering (Seoul, Korea; www.samsungengineering.co.kr) has signed a high-density polyethylene plant (HDPE) order contract for $229 million from OPaL (ONGC Petro Additions Ltd. ), a subsidiary of India s national oil company ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.).
The plant will be built in the special economic zone of Dahej, located in the state of Gujarat, India and is set to produce 340,000 ton/yr of HDPE. Samsung Engineering was initially notified in May that it would handle the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning work on a lump-sum turn-key basis with mechanical completion set for August 2013.
Since entering the Indian market for the first time in 1997, the company has successfully completed a range of quality projects with top national companies such as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Indian Oil Corp Ltd. In 2005, the linear alkyl benzene (LAB) project was completed in just 24 months.
Samsung Engineering India (SEI) was founded in 2006 as a major branch office of Samsung Engineering, employing over 600 Indian staff, from various disciplines such as engineering, procurement, construction, and project management.
