Plast-O-Matic unveils rooftop solar power system

| By Scott Jenkins

Plast-O-Matic Valves Inc. (Cedar Grove, N.J.; www.plastomatic.com) today unveiled a solar power system installed on the roof of its 55,000 ft2 N.J. plant.  Begun in 2008, the $2-million, 231-kW installation came as part of a pilot initiative administered by the New Jersey Clean Energy Program.

Because the facility is located in northeast U.S., special panels were selected for four-season operation.  The solar panels do not produce the maximum high-sun electrical output of a typical panel, but they do produce electricity in low-light conditions all winter, as well as on overcast days. At times when the plant is not operating, the excess power is sold to the grid.  The company supplies valves and controls for corrosive and high-purity liquids.
