PFAS-free membrane introduced for water-treatment needs

| By Mary Page Bailey

At Aquatech Amsterdam 2025, this company is launching the new Mytex H5L ultrafiltration (UF) membrane (photo), which includes no per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The water treatment industry faces increasing pressure to develop alternatives to polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes, which contribute to environmental pollution and pose potential health risks due to their carbon-fluorine bonds. As an alternative to PVDF, these new membranes use non-toxic materials like polyethersulfone (PES), and are designed to be fully recyclable. The membranes are also highly resistance to chemicals, scratches and wear to maximize efficiency and longevity, says the manufacturer. A modular design allows the membrane units to be easily adapted to diverse processing requirements. — WTA Unisol GmbH, Gotha, Germany
