Uhde Inventa-Fischer GmbH (Berlin, Germany; www.uhde-inventa-fischer.com) has entered into a contract with the Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) to provide the technology license and the basic engineering for the second PET (polyethylene terephthalate) resin expansion of its manufacturing affiliate, Arabian Industrial Fiber Co. (Ibn Rushd) at its site in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. The plant will have an annual capacity of 420,000 tons and will produce various grades of PET resin for applications such as still-water bottles and others. SABIC’s latest PET resin addition goes along with its expansion program at Ibn Rushd, which incudes several other projects, such as extensions of its PTA (pure terephthalic acid) plant as the raw material source for the PET plant. Based on SABIC specific project, end-product and logistic requirements (brown field extension of its existing PET facility), Uhde Inventa-Fischer will be able to provide an integrated and tailor-made plant design and technology concept to meet all specific process and product requirements of SABIC by using its proprietary owned, melt-phase PET Technology.
