Carbon Sciences Inc. (Santa Barbara, Calif.; www.carbonsciences.com) has filed a patent application surrounding its process for converting carbon dioxide and methane into liquid fuels. The patent application focuses on the design of the company’s novel chemical catalyst, among other aspects of the technology. Carbon Sciences’ process, which was demonstrated last year (see Chementator, April 2010), is designed to use flue gas emissions as a CO2 source. CEO Byron Elton says the company anticipates delivering a “market-ready” technology as soon as the first quarter of 2011.
