Container labels are an important element of risk reduction at facilities that manufacture or handle chemicals. Whether the container is a small plastic jug or large storage tank, labels need to meet the requirements of the United Nations Globally Harmonized System for the Labeling and Classification of Chemicals (GHS). This whitepaper outlines the components of GHS-compliant labels, including the six components that appear on each label. It also discusses guidance documents that dictate the label durability requirements for GHS container labels. In addition, the whitepaper includes information on label physical structure and types of printers used for printing them.
