Mitsubishi Chemical to consolidate water-treatment membrane operations

| By Mary Bailey

Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. (MCC; Tokyo) announced that it will transfer to its own operations and consolidate its membrane-related technology development and sales currently undertaken by its subsidiary Mitsubishi Chemical Aqua Solutions Co., Ltd. (MCAS) effective April 1, 2021. The aim of this transfer and consolidation is to increase the operational efficiency of the membrane business.

Within the membrane business to date, MCC has been responsible for manufacturing, while MCAS has undertaken technology development and sales. However, the transfer of technology development and sales to MCC and accompanying consolidation will enable MCC to take responsibility for the membrane business itself, while MCAS specializes in services such as the construction, sale, and maintenance of water treatment systems incorporating the membranes. In this way, the MCC Group will take a more efficient approach to closely aligning its manufacturing with customer needs and reinforcing its capability to propose solutions. The MCC Group regards food and water supply as a social issue requiring resolution, and as one of its priority business areas; in the aqua solutions business, therefore, it is aiming to devise forward-thinking solutions.
