Metso to deliver precious-metals refinery for e-waste recycling plant in India

Hindalco Industries Ltd., a global aluminum and copper processor, and a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, has awarded Metso Corp. (Espoo, Finland) an order for the delivery of engineering and key equipment for a new precious metals refinery to be built in the State of Gujarat in India. The new state-of-the-art precious metals refinery plant will be associated with the new e-waste recycling plant. Commissioning is expected to take place within two years. 

The Metso scope of delivery consists of a Kaldo furnace with off-gas handling and silver refining equipment. Metso will also deliver basic engineering for the precious metals refinery. The order value, which is not disclosed, is booked in the Minerals segment’s fourth-quarter 2024 orders received.

Metso offers industry leading technology and equipment for the complete copper processing value chain – from ore to cathodes and associated byproducts. Metso’s Outotec® Precious Metals Refinery technology is used for treating copper anode slime to recover high value precious metals. It can also be applied for a wide range of other precious metals containing materials such as lead anode slime, as well as precious metals concentrates, residues and slags.
