Messer Group starts up “green” CO2 plant

| By Mary Bailey

Messer Group GmbH (Bad Soden, Germany) has begun operations at a new plant producing green CO2 at its Vrdy site in the Czech Republic. This enables Messer to increase the supply reliability of its customers, for example in the local food and beverage industry. This is particularly important during the summer months, when demand for carbon dioxide for soft drinks or for cooling technologies is especially high.

In this case, Messer sources the carbon dioxide as raw gas from a local bioethanol producer, thereby supporting the movement to reduced greenhouse gases emissions by lowering the dependency on fossil or chemical sources. With this new plant, Messer is further strengthening its independent local product supply. The industrial gases specialist now delivers the gas itself to its customers in various industries and does not have to purchase carbon dioxide for the Czech market or import it from Messer sources abroad. Additionally, climate damaging greenhouse gases can be reduced due to shorter transportation routes.
