Measure NH4+ ions quickly and economically with this probe

| By Chemical Engineering

Ammonium ion loading is an important parameter for determining the amount of pollution in water. With this new ammonia electrode (photo), which has replaceable modules and membranes, it is possible to perform the appropriate analyses economically, says the company. Ammonium ions in a sample are converted into NH3 by the addition of NaOH. NH3 then diffuses through a gas-permeable membrane and then detected by means of a combined pH electrode. Two versions are available for applications involving low ammonium concentrations (for instance, boiler feedwater) and for highly polluted water (for example, wastewater with oil residues). — Deutsche Metrohm GmbH & Co.
