Kemira completes capacity expansion for alkenyl succinic anhydride sizing agents at Nanjing site

| By Mary Bailey

Kemira Oyj (Helsinki, Finland) has completed a multimillion euro investment to expand the production capacity of ASA (alkenyl succinic anhydride) sizing agents at its Nanjing site in Jiangsu province in China. The scope of the investment includes a full third production line and additional storage and tank capacity to further improve customer deliveries and supply reliability. Kemira has also recently announced production expansions in Spain, Brazil and Norway.

ASA sizing agents are used to improve water resistance in paper and board, including packaging solutions. ASA is the preferred sizing agent for paper, packaging and board grades. Kemira is the leading producer and supplier of sizing agents in the APAC market and Nanjing is the world’s largest ASA production site. Kemira’s production in Nanjing has been expanding since its start in 2014.

“We’re very pleased to complete this expansion project which will enable us to serve our customers even better in the APAC region and to respond to increasing demand for these high quality sizing products. ASA is the preferred choice of sizing agent for the new paper, packaging and board machines.”, says Nichlas Kavander, SVP Commercial Pulp & Paper APAC, Kemira.

The new production line will be fully operational in October 2024.
