JGC Corp. (Yokohama, Japan; www.jgc.com) has been awarded a contract for the construction of a photovoltaic power plant from Karumai Higashi Solar, LLC. This follows its receipt of the contract for the Karumai Nishi facility in April of this year.
The lump-sum turnkey contract covers for the engineering, procurement and construction work (EPC) of a solar photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 80,800 kW (equivalent to the annual power consumption of about 25,000 households) in Yamauchi, Karumai, Kunohe, Iwate. Project completion is scheduled for the end of November, 2019.
The development, originally led by Renova, Inc., has been taken over by Karumai Higashi Solar, LLC., which plans the establishment of the solar power plant on approximately 300 hectares of hilly, wooded land.
JGC has not only undertaken the EPC work for a number of solar power plants but has also operated those facilities, providing the company with extensive experience and know-how in this field. For this project, JGC will apply its construction capabilities and use its experience as an operator to fully anticipate and satisfy the needs of the client.
JGC’s new medium-term business plan, “Beyond the Horizon,” announced in May of this year, aims at realizing JGC’s basic goal of expanding its business beyond projects in the oil-and-gas sector to other energy infrastructure, industrial infrastructure and social infrastructure projects. With the problem of global warming becoming increasingly important, JGC intends to deepen its involvement, both domestically and overseas, in the operation of renewable energy power generation plants and the construction of such facilities as a contribution to building a sustainable future.
