In Poorly Lubricated Conditions, Try this Diamond Seal…

| By Chemical Engineering

Over 50% of pump lifecycle costs result from energy and maintenance; and applying the low-wear and low-friction attributes of diamond to mechanical seals can yield significant energy savings for fluid pumps. Ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) seals provide the benefits of diamond at expenses comparable to silicon-carbide (SiC) face seals. In tests performed by the manufacturer, UNCD seals outlasted SiC faces in poor lubricating conditions (250 – 300°F hot water), and outperformed them during extreme wear. UNCD Seals have also been shown, when running against SiC, to have coefficients of friction of 0.02 – 0.04, a feature that increases their tolerance to poorly lubricated conditions and makes them suitable for a wide variety of pumping applications. — Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc., Romeoville, Ill.
