Honeywell announces $9.1-million control valve contract for Qatar GTL plant

| By Rebekkah Marshall

Honeywell Process Solutions (www.honeywell.com/ps) has announced a $9.1-million agreement to provide control valves for the new integrated Pearl Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) plant in Qatar, a partnership between Qatar Shell GTL Ltd. (Shell) and Qatar Petroleum. The project’s main engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor — Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. (HDEC) — selected Honeywell for its ability to serve as the single supplier of the plant’s general purpose, rotary and severe application valves.

Located about 53 miles north of Doha in the industrial city of Ras Laffan, the Pearl GTL facility will include two gas platforms and an onshore GTL plant that is expected to produce 140,000 bbl/d of GTL products, including naphtha and transport fuels.  GTL products are considered environmentally friendly because they are virtually free of sulfur, nitrogen and aromatics.
