Hexion Inc.’s (Columbus, Ohio; www.hexion.com) Oilfield Technology Group announced the completion of the expansion project at its resin-coated proppant manufacturing plant in Canada. The proppant plant is located in Sturgeon County, north of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. With this project, it has significantly increased its capacity and logistics capabilities to efficiently serve the Canadian market. The rail yard has been expanded and redesigned to accommodate over 100 rail cars. The rail expansion, along with production capacity enhancements, will improve logistics and allow for quicker response to market demand. The plant produces a variety of products, including KRT 100 resin-coated sand. These proppants are used to stimulate microfractures within a reservoir and extend propped fracture length. They also provide benefits like reducing proppant flowback and creating fewer fines than uncoated sand.
