GE Oil & Gas to supply new hydrocracking facility in the U.K.

| By Dorothy Lozowski

GE Oil & Gas has been selected as a supplier for a new heavy-oil upgrader planned to be developed by Sonhoe in Teesside, North East England. With an estimated contract value of over $200 million, GE Oil & Gas will provide reactors, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, centrifugal pumps and air coolers.

The new plant will upgrade low-quality heavy oil into premium-quality, ultra-low-sulfur diesel, kerosene and petrochemical naphtha in a 200,000-bbl/d facility that is planned to come onstream in 2013–14. The facility includes a 110,000-bbl/d hydrocracking capability and a gasification complex that will produce over 500 m.t./d of hydrogen and over 240,000 therms/d of synthetic gas.
