Integrated dewatering and drying system reduces costs
As a cost-effective alternative to filter presses and dewatering screws, this company’s fluid-bed dryer uses vibrating, dewatering screens (photo) to remove excess moisture from saturated materials and slurries ahead of the dryer unit. This preliminary mechanical draining step provides a lower-cost option for removing moisture than sole reliance on heat energy for dewatering. The vibrating dewatering screens in this system are able to continuously feed the material to the dryer at up to 20,000 lb/h in a form that allows the remaining moisture to be more efficiently removed at a far lower cost than by drying alone, says the company. — The Witte Co., Washington, N.J.
