This material protects structures in coastal areas

Together with U.S. Steel (Pittsburgh, Pa.), this company recently launched a material for surface protection in coastal environments. Coastalume combines the strength and self-healing characteristics of U.S. Steel’s Galvalume material with this company’s Tedlat polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) film barrier that withstands saltwater corrosion, UV damage, cracking, impact and more. By combining these two materials for the first time, the two companies have made a maintenance-free roofing solution that offers a level of durability and reliability needed in residential and commercial construction along the coast. Applied directly to the steel coil, Tedlar film excels in resisting seawater and salt spray, maintaining color integrity even in prolonged sun exposure. It is available in over 30 different colors, including metallics, wood grains and stone finishes. — DuPont, Wilmington, Del.
