Non-contact radar device measures bulk solids levels
The Rosemount 5408 Non-Contacting Radar Level Transmitter (photo) is a SIL 3-capable device that measures bulk solids levels in bins, silos and vessels, supporting process optimization and plant safety objectives in CPI facilities. The uneven surfaces of materials in enclosed vessels can deflect energy away from a radar signal and generate false signal reflections, which impact measurement accuracy. The device uses a signal-processing algorithm that merges surface peaks, enabling a higher level of accuracy than competing options, says the company. The device’s two-wire frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technology produces a continuous echo to maximize radar signal strength and produce a more robust and reliable measurement. — Emerson, St. Louis, Mo.
