SRF Ltd. (New Delhi, India; www.srf.com), a refrigerant manufacturer in India, signed a binding agreement to purchase DuPont’s global HFC-134a regulated medical-pharmaceutical propellant business. This DuPont Fluorochemicals business is part of the Performance Chemicals segment of DuPont, which is anticipated to be separated from the company in mid-2015. Under the transaction, SRF will own the DuPont Dymel brand, and will also receive technology for setting up manufacturing facilities for pharma grade products. Under the agreement, DuPont will supply SRF with HFC-134a product until SRF’s production facility is approved. SRF is the only Indian manufacturer of HFC-134a. Pharma-grade HFC-134a is approved as a longterm, environmentally friendly alternative propellant for a growing number of medical applications.
