The MCR 702 rheometer features this company’s modular TwinDrive technology, and is said to be the only instrument capable of handling all rheological applications. The device has two synchronous EC (electrically commutated) motor units — one is permanent and one can be extracted and integrated when needed. The renowned dynamism and precision of the EC motors, the company says, allows users to take advantage of several options for meeting the requirements of their applications. In what is called 2EC mode, the rheometer employs both motors as drive units and torque transducers, rotating in either parallel or opposite directions. The double EC motors extend the scope of testing options. For example, the device can be used with counter rotation for enhanced rheo-microscopy. The lower motor can also be removed for use as a single-drive rheometer, enabling classic stress-controlled tests, the company says. — Anton Paar USA, Ashland, Va.
