Chevron Phillips completes construction of polyethylene pilot plant in Oklahoma

| By Mary Bailey

Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LP (The Woodlands, Tex.; www.cpchem.com) announced the completion of its leading-edge polyethylene pilot plant at its research and technology facility in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

The pilot plant enables polyethylene research, such as new catalyst and polymer development, to take place on a pilot scale prior to implementation in full-scale operations, including the company’s $6 billion investment along the Texas Gulf Coast expected to start up next year.

“We are grateful to the men and women who worked tirelessly and more importantly, safely, to make this project a success,” said Don Lycette, Senior Vice President of Research and Technology for Chevron Phillips Chemical. “It has been a year since we broke ground in Bartlesville, and we now have cutting-edge technology to assist our customers by developing new products, processes and technologies.”

Utilizing Chevron Phillips Chemical’s MarTECH polyethylene technology, the new unit will support customers from around the world from concept to commercialization, enabling companies the opportunity to go to the marketplace following proven polyethylene research.

With more than 55 years of proven success, Chevron Phillips Chemical’s original MarTECH loop slurry process and its newer MarTECH advanced dual loop (ADL) technology are used for manufacturing polyethylene and creating bimodal polyethylene resins for advanced applications. The MarTECH polyethylene technology is available for licensing and is utilized by more than 80 licensed plants in 16 countries worldwide.
