Rototherm D (photo) is a new continuous, indirect vacuum dryer for free-flowing solids, designed to handle materials that are sensitive to heat or shear. The dryer’s shell and rotor are both heated for a high surface-area-to-volume ratio. Dynamic baffles create plug-flow continuous conveying through the unit. Continuous operation produces consistent results, and with indirect heating, the unit uses much less energy than direct dryers, such as fluidized-bed and convection dryers, according to the company.
