Chandra Asri selects Unipol process technology for new PE plant

| By Mary Bailey

PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (CAP; Jakarta, Indonesia; www.chandra-asri.com) has signed an agreement with Univation Technologies LLC (Houston; www.univation.com) for the license of the UNIPOL PE polyethylene process technology to be applied at a new polyethylene plant at CAP’s integrated naphtha cracker complex in Cilgon, Banten, Indonesia. The new plant will be designed to produce 400,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr) of polyethylene. The agreement covers the process design package, including license to produce linear low-density polywthylene (LLDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and metallocene LLDPE. This commitment is a major milestone in CAP’s strategic plan to build a new PE plant, with final investment decision expected by mid-2017.

Currently, CAP operates a PE plant in Cilegon with a total capacity of 336,000 m.t./yr, where one production line with a capacity of 200,000 m.t./yr is using Unipol PE technology licensed from Univation to produce LLDPE and HDPE resins.
