Borouge is expanding polyolefins production

| By Dorothy Lozowski

Borouge, a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.; www.adnoc.ae), and Borealis (Vienna, Austria; www.borealisgroup.com), is expanding its production capacity of polyolefins in Abu Dhabi to 4.5 million metric tons per year by the end of 2013.

Borouge has awarded the three main contracts for the front-end engineering and design (FEED) stage of its Borouge 3 expansion in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi to Tecnimont (Maire Tecnimont Group, Rome, Italy; www.mairetecnimont.it). This includes the FEED of the multiple polyolefin units, the LDPE (low density polyethylene) unit and the utilities and offsite facilities. This milestone announcement follows the recent selection of Bechtel as the project management support for Borouge 3. The FEED-stage will have a duration of approximately nine months.
