Battery performance is enhanced with these additives

| By Chemical Engineering

One additive intended for use in lead-acid batteries for micro-hybrid gasoline engines, and another for lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles, can improve battery performance. PBX51 is a performance additive designed to improve performance and lifetime for lead-acid batteries requiring high levels of charge-discharge cycles. This battery type is used in batteries that add “start-stop” function to gasoline engines. The LITX50 carbon conductive additive is used in lithium-ion automobile batteries to improve the conductivity of battery electrodes, which enables improved power performance for thicker, higher-energy layers, says the manufacturer. — Cabot Corp., Boston, Mass.
