Approvals for power supplies enable use in hazardous zones

| By Chemical Engineering

As a result of approvals by Germanischer Lloyd and UL-listed ANSI/ISA, the Quint DC/DC converter power supplies equipped with selective fuse breaking (SFB) technology can now be used in hazardous zones. Thanks to their low susceptibility to failure and high availability, these modules are suited for industrial applications with high demands regarding environmental conditions. With SFB technology, the devices trip circuit breakers reliably. Faulty circuits are selectively shut down so that the fault is localized and important system components remain operational. With rated outputs of 5–20 A, these units supply peak currents of 30 up to 120 A for 12 ms to magnetically trip circuit breakers. The voltage converters operate with d.c. input voltages of between 18 and 32 V (14–32 V d.c. during operation). — Phoenix Contact, Bromberg, Germany
