An oxygen sensor that can tell when calibration is required

| By Chemical Engineering

The Model 6888 oxygen sensor monitors oxygen remaining in fluegas from combustion processes using boilers, incinerators, industrial furnaces, kilns and process heaters. Since the calibration frequency of an oxygen sensor is highly application-dependent, the electronics of the unit provide an online diagnostic that determines when calibration should be conducted. Calibrations can be accomplished online while the combustion is in operation. The Model 6888 has a zirconium oxide sensing element at the end of a probe that is inserted into the fluegas stream. The instrument can operate through process upsets, the company says. — Emerson Process Management, Chanhassan, Minn.
