Air-pollution-control technology to be marketed in North America

| By Scott Jenkins

Hamon Research Cottrell (Somerville, N.J.) has entered into a formal agreement to market air-pollution-control technology from J-Power EnTech (Tokyo, Japan) in North America. The technology, Regenerative Activated Coke Technology (React), is designed for efficient control of SOx, NOx, mercury and particulate emissions in industrial and utility applications.

Commercial-scale installations in Japan have been using the technology successfully for several years in areas such as steel production, petrochemicals and waste incineration. J-Power EnTech claims that pollutant emissions from a Japanese coal-fired utility station that uses ReACT are comparable to levels observed at natural-gas-fired facilities.

The React process generates salable byproducts and does not require water, the company says. It adds that React should be of particular interest to utilities burning lower-sulfur fuels in locations where significant water use issues exist.
