A Seal for Low Temperatures and High Pressures

| By Chemical Engineering

Suitable for use in lift and steering cylinder applications, the HDR-2C Bi-Component Polyurethane Rod Seal (photo) combines two materials into a one seal offering improved flexibility at low temperatures (down to – 58°F) and higher extrusion resistance at high pressures. A simple, one-piece component, the seal provides larger extrusion-gap widths and protection from housing and bore contact via a backing constructed from the firm’s 98 AU 928 polyurethane. Its low-temperature component is 92 AU 21100 polyurethane applied to static and dynamic sealing edges allowing for the use of cost-effective engineered plastic guides (rather than metallic guides). It is compatible with standard housings according to the manufacturer. — Freudenberg-NOK, Plymouth, Mich.
