A system that achieves continuous electrosynthesis

ElectraSyn Flow (photo) is a system for continuous electrosynthesis. A peristaltic pump moves the basic material/electrolyte via two flexible pipes through the electrosynthesis cell. Within this flow cell, two electrodes are mounted parallel and at a short distance to each other. These electrodes are connected to the power-supply unit by two current-carrying conducts and supplied with direct current. When the electrolyte is flowing into the cell (controlled by the pump), the required electrosynthesis process with oxidation and reduction can take place. The resulting product leaves the electrosynthesis cell via two flexible pipes. The current and the flowrate can be manually adjusted by the user. If required, a semi-permeable membrane can be mounted in the system in order to divide the cell. Booth 213 — IKA USA, Inc., Wilmington, Del.
