Babcock Borsig Service Arabia Ltd. has signed its first digitalization contract with Saudi Tabreed Operations & Maintenance Co. This is the first digitalization awarding secured by Bilfinger Middle East for the region. Saudi Tabreed, a highly experienced district cooling scheme operator in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with its headquarters based in Khobar, Eastern Province, operates as a subsidiary of Saudi Tabreed, a closed joint-stock company between Tabreed & Vision Invest Company. With a world’s largest cooling portfolio of about one million refrigeration tons, Tabreed owns, operates (other private, government, semi- government and private entities) 83 plants across the GCC (KSA, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain & Oman).
Through the support of Bilfinger Digital Next GmbH (Heidelberg, Germany) , a corporate startup of the leading industrial service provider Bilfinger SE (Mannheim, Germany), Babcock Borsig Service Arabia Ltd. had implemented a pilot project in Q4 2019 at a plant operated by Saudi Tabreed in Riyadh to evaluate the Energy Optimization possibilities using the BCAP (Bilfinger Connected Asset Performance) platform. With BCAP, Bilfinger Digital Next offers operators of industrial plants a modular digitization solution to gain insights from its isolated data. At its core, all data from the areas of engineering, operation, and maintenance of a plant is connected, processed, analyzed, and visualized on a cloud-based platform.
The combination of BCAP, Bilfinger domain expertise and data science expertise adds value to these insights that will increase business value top and bottom line. The insightful findings of this pilot project of more than one energy optimization possibility created confidence for Saudi Tabreed’s management to proceed with signing this proof of value contract. Saudi Tabreed has chosen the model where one module with two chillers will be connected and operated with BCAP recommendations and a second module with two chillers will be connected, operated in a “normal way” to compare it to the first module and gain insights into BCAP optimization potential.
“Driving Operational Excellence through digitalization requires a deep understanding of the processed data and the potential of these insights. By analyzing the data in BCAP, we are able to gain more insights and to create a real business case for STOM”, says Franz Braun, managing director of Bilfinger Digital Next GmbH and chief digital officer at Bilfinger.
“This is a significant milestone for Bilfinger in the Middle East. We are confident of Bilfinger’s wide portfolio and we continue to offer Bilfinger’s digital solutions to our clients and provide unmatched industry knowledge, client experiences and subject matter experts to accelerate digital growth with end to end solutions,” says Jon Rokk, president & CEO, Bilfinger Middle East.
“Babcock Borsig Service Arabia Ltd. continues to expand its core competencies and tap into potential opportunities within the Bilfinger group to offer the Saudi Market. We are delighted to partner with Saudi Tabreed as our first client for our digital solutions services in the region. Once the proof of concept is delivered it will enable Saudi Tabreed to expand the program for their facilities and demonstrate the potential savings Bilfinger can deliver across many sectors for other clients in the near future,” says Adrian Duffy, managing director, Bilfinger KSA and Bahrain.
“With the results of this project, Babcock Borsig Service Arabia Ltd. hopes to continue and pursue an increased scope of work with other Saudi Tabreed plants to enhance energy efficiency in line with the Kingdom’s 2030 vision,” says Saleh Sharaf, country director — Business Development, Babcock Borsig Service Arabia Ltd.
